Toms Shoes Cordones!
Toms Shoe’s newest addition to the collection is their Cordones! These shoes are really fantastic, and have a very authentic, rugged style to them. Ever seen one before? The Toms Shoes Cordones look like this:
Pretty cool right? We think so too. It’s definitely a new step for the Toms Shoes brand, because before, with their alpargatas, all of the shoes had no laces. That said, there are a lot of cool new features about these Toms cordones.
What’s New About the TOMS Cordones?
Glad you asked. The basic difference between the cordones and the alpargatas is that now you have the option of adding laces to your shoes. That’s option, not required. You see, one of the coolest parts about these cordones is that you can wear them without laces as a slip-on shoe, and they’re just like the alpargatas except with a little different style on the outside! But if you want to add some threads, simply put on the laces and you’ve got some swank tie-up shoes to take you on all your daily adventures!
Great for Bikes, too!
They’re also perfect for people who ride their bikes everywhere. If you live in a big city like New York or Los Angeles (or even if you just like riding your bike), they’re perfect for riding your bike at night because the TOMS logo on the back is reflective. So you’re sure to catch the attention of any night-time drivers. Cordones keep you safe on the road. And, of course, with that sleek sillhouette of a design, the aerodynamic benefits of the cordones are likely incredible (though don’t hold us to it – no studies have been done thus far)!
So Why Are They Called Cordones?
It’s an interesting question, and we went to Wikipedia for some answers. Officially, cordones were collectives of workers throughout South America who stood up for their rights when the big bosses tried to cut their paychecks and make them work over-time. Cordones represented standing up for what’s right, and liberty, and the power of the people. But at Toms Shoes, there’s another meaning involved! Specifically, these shoes are an ode to the famous Argentinian writers who were so influential in their day, and were responsible for creating some serious culture for all those Porteños in Buenos Aires (Porteño is the name of a person that lives in Buenos Aires). So as a result, each shoe is named after a different Argentinian writer. You’ve got the Cortazar, and the Barletta, and the Martinez. Of course, our personal favorite is the Borges (he’s also our favorite writer out of the bunch):
You can get some great deals on Cordones right now, especially because the Holiday season is upon us! Check out Cordones for both him and her! And remember, as always, Toms Shoes created the One for One Movement. So for every pair of shoes you buy, Toms donates a pair to a child in need. Always, One for One.
